Think Your Kids Are Too Old for Family Photos? Think Again.
Think Your Kids Are Too Old for Family Photos? Think Again. 🍂

Family photos aren't just for the little-kid years
When kids are little, it feels natural to schedule family photos regularly.
They're growing quickly, losing teeth, changing constantly, and you want to document every stage.
Then suddenly they're teenagers.
Schedules get complicated. Sports take over the calendar. Someone doesn't want to dress up. Someone else definitely doesn't want Mom posting pictures of them. 😆
And family photos quietly stop happening.
But this is actually one of the seasons I think is most worth documenting.
Your family is still changing
Teenagers may not physically change as quickly as toddlers, but your family is moving toward some pretty big transitions.
High school.
Driving.
First jobs.
Graduation.
College.
Moving away.
Before you know it, getting everyone together for a family photo becomes even harder.
That makes the years when everyone is still living under the same roof incredibly special.
It doesn't have to feel awkward
One of the biggest misconceptions about family photography with older kids is that everyone has to stand together and smile at the camera for an hour.
Absolutely not.
We'll get that beautiful everyone-looking-at-the-camera photo Mom wants, but we'll also create images that feel relaxed and natural.
Talk. Walk. Laugh. Give each other a hard time.
Basically, act like your family.
Those in-between moments often become my favorites.
Let your teenagers be themselves
Your teenager doesn't need to suddenly become someone different for family photos.
Let them have some input.
Ask what they feel comfortable wearing. Let them choose between a couple of outfit options. Tell them ahead of time that this isn't going to be an endless photoshoot.
And don't stress if they're not giving me a giant smile every second.
Their personality is part of what we're documenting.
Do it before everyone scatters
It's easy to tell yourself you'll schedule family pictures next year.
But this version of your family only exists right now.
The braces. The height differences. The sibling jokes. The teenager who suddenly towers over Mom. The last few years before everyone starts heading in different directions.
Those are memories worth keeping too.
So yes, even if your kids groan when you tell them you booked family pictures...
Book them anyway. 😉
Someday, there's a pretty good chance they'll be really glad you did.
