Rain in the Forecast?! Don’t Panic About Your Photo Session ☔📸
Rain in the Forecast?! Don’t Panic About Your Photo Session ☔📸

New Mexico weather likes to keep us guessing
You’ve planned the outfits. Everyone’s schedules finally lined up. Your family photo session is on the calendar.
And then you look at the forecast.
Rain.
Before you start stressing, know that weather is simply part of planning an outdoor photography session—especially with New Mexico weather!
A questionable forecast doesn’t automatically mean your session is ruined.
I’m watching the weather too!
You don’t need to spend the entire day refreshing your weather app.
As your photographer, I’m paying attention to the conditions too.
Weather forecasts can change quickly, so making a decision too early isn’t always helpful. Sometimes a day that looks like a total washout several days ahead turns into a beautiful evening.
Clouds aren't necessarily bad
A cloudy sky can actually give us gorgeous light.
Clouds naturally soften the sunlight, which can mean:
• beautiful skin tones• fewer harsh shadows• soft, even lighting• rich fall colors• more flexibility with where we photograph
So don't assume that a gray sky means gray photos!
What about wind?
If you've lived in Albuquerque or Rio Rancho for long, you know wind can be part of the deal too.
A little breeze is manageable—and sometimes even beautiful in photos.
If conditions become too strong or uncomfortable, however, we'll make the best decision for your session.
And if the weather really doesn't cooperate?
The most important thing is that we create beautiful photos and that your family has a good experience.
If weather conditions truly aren't workable, we'll talk through the best next step rather than forcing a session that isn't going to give us the experience we want.
So if you see a little rain cloud pop up on your weather app before your session, don't panic.
New Mexico might just surprise us with an incredible sky five minutes later. 😉
